(Dan Tri) – The special envoy of the self-proclaimed president of Venezuela will meet with representatives of the US Southern Command next week to discuss the strategy for changing the government in Venezuela.

“The meeting will take place on Monday (May 20).

Previously, Carlos Vecchio, whom Mr. Guaido considered an `ambassador`, sent a letter on behalf of the opposition leader to Admiral Craig Faller, commander of the US Southern Command, on May 11.

In the letter, Mr. Vecchio asked the US Southern Command to organize a `meeting with the technical delegation to promote strategic planning and action` to `restore democracy` in Venezuela.

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro has long accused the US of plotting to overthrow the legitimate elected government in Venezuela.

“We object to the letter written by one of the coup leaders calling for military intervention in Venezuela, on behalf of a group of coup plotters who carry out terrorist activities aimed at causing chaos.

In a related development, the Venezuelan Supreme Court on May 14 charged four opposition lawmakers with treason and inciting riots.

Also yesterday, Venezuelan security forces blocked the parliament building, not allowing lawmakers to attend the meeting on the grounds that there were explosive devices inside.

Opposition leader Juan Guaido criticized the move of Venezuela’s security forces, saying that the Maduro government was trying to close the parliament, which is controlled by the opposition.
